Hey last week was about the history of marvel which was a total eye opener for me. So decided to dive into DC history to know more about them(so that I can diss them with fact 😏😏 ) So here starts the DC comic history (oh by the way am going to be serious from here on out, we DC comics are always serious.)
The history of Dc is a fun one to look at. But frankly speaking they have so much origin story of their characters that it would take a year to get to all of them. The history keep changing in a way especially with their use of multiverse. I love comic be it DC or Marvel or even Anime, and the reason i give DC fans hard time is because of how i feel the characters potential are been wasted. Seeing Marvel make something out a almost dead Guardians of the galaxy or a crazy huge success with a B rank if not C rank Deadpool makes me wonder what DC is doing about their own C rank or B rank hero. Like i would love to watch a Nightwing movie , would adore a Red hood Movie, would worship a Green lantern Cameo, anything at this point to prove why they are the best. I just hope the Teen Titans end up being amazing.
Well look at that ,i ended up writing about how i feel for DC instead of their history but what is comic without a little emotion in it .
Till next week Be part of a History..
- Detective comics aka DC comics was founded in 1934 (84 years ago) by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson. DC comics is one of the largest and oldest comic book company since its creation. DC comics wasn't always DC comics it was founded as National Allied Publications for financial reasons and with the sole aim of trying to turn a profit. To do this, they decided to get in on the pulp comic market that was emerging among younger audiences. They launched their first comic NEW FUN:The Big Comic Magazine #1 in February of 1935. It later evolved into Adventure Comic, which continued for almost 50 years with it's last issue being published in 1983 as #503,making it the longest running comic series of all time. The last title which was given by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson was Detective comics hence the name DC which also became a success thanks to the famous detective of comic book Batman. They also created another line of Comic known as Action Comics ,which also became successful featuring a new superhero named Superman. They almost lost their credibility and success that they work so hard to get when the DC Comic industry was under attack during the 1950’s as they were not considered to be up to any American standards for any children and the younger generation too. But Still the DC company did continue to keep its success during that time along with several other companies too, and covered some areas as westerns and romantic stories but it was their reemergence of the super heroes such as the Flash which would lead them to a huge recreation of what made them so successful in the comic book industry known as the Silver Age.
- Secondly In 1970, Marvel beloved Jack Kirby moved from Marvel Comics to DC, at the end of the Silver Age Of Comics, in which Kirby's contributions to Marvel played a large, successful integral role. In DC he created a handful of thematically linked series he called collectively The Fourth World. In this existing series Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen and in his own, newly launched series New Gods, Mister Miracle, and The Forever People. Kirby also introduced such enduring characters and concepts as archvillain Darkseid and the other-dimensional realm Apokolips. By 1973 the "Fourth World" was all cancelled, but Kirby's conceptions would soon become integral to the broadening of the DC universe. And by the way Jack wasn't the only guy from Marvel that worked for DC, Frank miller of Daredevil worked for DC in which he created the Dark Knight Returns: a four issue comic book miniseries starring Batman as well as Ditko too( DC needed some of that Marvel touch by all means).
- This point revolves round DC characters after all that is what makes DC. What is DC without Superman and Batman ? The two most popular superheroes in the world. Although Superman remains the most well-known superhero in the world, Batman holds the title for most appearances, which currently stands at around 6250. Did you know that Batman is a city in Turkey and it's also a course of study at the University of Victoria in Canada(am so taking that course ) Or that The Flash once ran all the way to the Marvel Universe (I really don't know what could chase him all the way to the Marvel universe)
Well look at that ,i ended up writing about how i feel for DC instead of their history but what is comic without a little emotion in it .
