If you not, remember there is someone out who thinks Stan Lee is the younger brother of Bruce Lee(hope that cheered you up) Today we gonna throw more light in the shape of a blade on the new villain of The flash season 5( see what I did there). Today is all about the history, present and future of Cicada, well according to the comic( am pretty sure the flash series origin might be different and I will try not give any spoilers (I think ) ). History
Cicada is known as David Hersch. He is The Founder, Creator and Leader of The Cicada Cult and an extremely dangerous Metahuman criminal in Keystone City. After murdering his wife,(which he refuses to admit to) and sick with regret of his actions, he sought to end his own life. Until he was struck by a bolt of lightning. He discovered that he had gained the ability to absorb the life force of others, extending his life span almost a century. He believed the accident was the same as The Flash's and that they should be linked. The lightning bolt gave him a vision of his own immortality and foretold the resurrection of his wife. Over the subsequent years he operated as The Cult Leader Cicada, accumulating many followers planning for the day he would resurrect his wife.
Present.
Ever since he got his powers, his mission has been to bring back his wife. This resulted him to create a cult The Cicada cult which possess huge following. Since it's creation their main goal is to murder every one The Flash has ever saved using lightning bolt shaped daggers. Cicada saw a vision that he was destined to live on together with his wife, still believing his wife was murdered.
Future.
He eventually succeeded and takes enough life including some of The Flash life source to bring back his wife back. However, his beloved wife reveals that he killed her . Cicada denies this and ironically kills his wife again with a kiss that sucks out all her life force . He was stop eventually by The Flash and sent to Iron heights prison ,where he was put on death row pending confirmation from S. T. A. R. Labs that he could even be killed. He later uses Gorilla Gross jailbrake commotion to escape from Iron Heights. Cicada later appears at Captain Boomerang funeral and accepts an invitation to join Lex Luther secret society of super-villians during infinite crisis. He is one of the various super criminal sent to to the penal colony on the planet Cygnus 4019, which has been nicknamed Salvation.
His powers are not as bizarre and wild as superman or darkside that could destroy a planet. His powers are unique and special , but still powerful nonetheless starting
with his:
Physiology: After being struck by lightning, David's body had changed into a lightning rod for souls and he learned not only could he live forever but he could do so by stealing lives.
Accelerated Healing: David's body's increased metabolism allows him to heal damaged tissue much faster and more extensively than a normal human is capable of.
Immortality: Stealing one life can give David up to a century more to live and he's killed dozens of people already. Coupling this with his self healing means that Cicada is effectively immortal.( I actually want this ability alone)
Psychic Link: Anyone being cut by Cicada's dagger, becomes connected to him. Example was Detective Jared Morillo who was cut by his blade when he caught him and as a result is now connected to him as well as having rapid healing.
David wields two blades or lightning daggers as they are called which are capable of absorbing the life force of his victims to be transferred to resurrect the dead.
I hope I didn't give any form of spoilers here. I just basically wrote his profile from the comics, and am pretty sure the series might go another direction. Now we know who the mask villain is, I have done my job that no one sent me to do and with that I bid you adieu.
